Today, on the anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia, the 7th edition of the Czechoslovakia contest on Czech Wikipedia begins. Until 10 December 2026, anyone can write new articles or expand existing ones about the years 1918–1992, and upload photos, posters and other period materials to Wikimedia Commons.
This year, we are focusing mainly on local history. Big history is made up of thousands of small stories: the histories of towns and villages, local figures, companies, schools, buildings and associations. Many of them are still missing from Wikipedia. Last year, 42 Wikipedians took part in the contest, editing over 250 articles and uploading 238 photos.
Anyone can join, even without any previous Wikipedia experience. All you need to do is add the hashtag #ceskoslovensko to your edit summary. We will help you with editing at the accompanying events:
- Czechoslovakia Editathon at Seznam.cz, Wednesday 25 November, 3–7 pm, Prague and online
- Václav Havel, Playwright – a Workshop on Writing Wikipedia Articles, Friday 4 December, 3–7 pm, Municipal Library of Prague
The rules, topic ideas and the full program can be found on the contest page on Czech Wikipedia. The contest is organized by Wikimedia Czech Republic.
