In September 2026, the Wiki Loves Film challenge came to an end; its aim is to expand information and resources relating to film and cinema. For the second time, participants from across the CEE region took part, with the main focus on Uzbek cinema.
The initiative began in 2024 as a small challenge called ‘Films on Wikipedia’, before expanding in 2025 into the international ‘Wiki Loves Film’ challenge across the entire CEE region. The result is a challenge in which participants from across Central and Eastern Europe take part, expanding or writing articles about films and filmmakers. For the first time, the challenge ran oficially from 1 July to 31 September 2026 to allow all countries to participate according to their capacity. In the Czech Republic, the competition took place between 1 July and 31 August.
Once again, the majority of articles came from Czech Republic and Romania. However there was also notable interest from Wikimedia Slovakia and Uzbek Wikimedia. Among the published articles, the Czech entries on Uzbek cinema, the film Erotikon, German film expressionism, Paolo Genovese, the composer Ondřej Ježek and the actress Marie Rovenská are certainly worth noting. Significant expansions to existing articles were made, for example, on the entry for director Evald Schorm. A total of 28 users took part on the Czech Wikipedia, creating 267 articles. The user Karelkam made the most edits (111) and was awarded the prize for the most active contributor.
In addition to the articles, a total of 483 images were uploaded by 9 users during the challenge.
