In 2025, the Department of Asian Studies at Palacký University in Olomouc launched the Open Knowledge for a Sustainable Future course, with the aim of involving students in the writing of both academic and encyclopaedic texts. The course is led by Associate Professor and lecturer Francis Bond and the lead tutor from Wikimedia Czech Republic, Pavel Bednařík.
The Open Knowledge course focuses on developing students’ skills in writing academic and encyclopaedic articles. Students practise preparing a thematic academic entry, as well as drafting and publishing an entry on Wikipedia. Visiting Professor Francis Bond is responsible for the academic component, whilst Pavel Bednařík is in charge of the Wikipedia aspect. The course runs during the winter semester of 2025/2026; students can take part in Asian Month on Wikipedia or join the Olomouc Wikiclub.
