Czechoslovakia 2025: Seniors and Students Bring History to Life on Wikipedia

This year’s edition of the Czechoslovakia 2025 competition confirmed the enduring interest in our shared history. A total of 42 participants joined the challenge, enriching Wikipedia with 252 articles (184 new and 68 expanded) and uploading 238 photographs. The competition was accompanied by a series of live events, including edit-a-thons at Czech Radio and the Municipal Library of Prague, as well as a film evening at Ponrepo. The most active contributor was senior editor Karelkam with 55 edits, while Wikipedian JanaJin impressed the jury the most with the quality of her texts.

The younger generation also left a significant mark this year. Thanks to the partnership with the Velvet at Schools (Samet na školách) program, students from grammar schools in Jaroměř and Prague’s Podskalská Street got involved by organizing workshops on how Wikipedia works. Meanwhile, students from the Dvořák Grammar School in Kralupy nad Vltavou directly created content as part of their media literacy education, producing high-quality regional entries such as the article on the Kaučuk Kralupy factory. You can read the complete results and the stories behind the articles on the Wikimedia CZ blog.
