On Thursday, May 14, 2026, the main in-person edit-a-thon of the second annual Month of Science on Wikipedia challenge took place in the Library of the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (FZU).
The edit-a-thon program kicked off with two parallel tours for participants to choose from. History enthusiasts went on a roughly one-hour tour of the Art Deco institute building and its immediate surroundings. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the local doorman, who guided the group stylishly dressed in a period suit and bowler hat.
The second group headed straight to the FZU laboratories. Here, participants attended a comprehensive lecture on the structure of photovoltaic panels, complemented by engaging visual demonstrations of raw silicon crystals and finished products.
After the tours, the group moved to the library, where the editing part began with an introductory lecture on how Wikipedia works. This was intentionally kept brief this time, as the vast majority of attendees were already familiar with the basic principles of editing. Following this, participants, armed with their laptops and sources, got down to writing and expanding articles, supported throughout by the trainers present. Over the course of the afternoon, the trainers also dedicated intensive time to complete beginners—helping them create accounts, make their first edits in both the user and main namespaces, and explaining the basics of working with sources and image copyright licenses.
