While most of the country was relaxing with fairy tales and finishing off Christmas cookies, a group of determined Wikipedians embarked on a difficult task. As part of the celebrations for Wikipedia’s 25th birthday, the 25 Wikidays challenge took place. It had a clear but demanding goal: to write one new article every single day, continuously from December 22nd to January 15th.
This challenge, inspired by the international concept #100wikidays, tested not only the editors’ knowledge but, above all, their perseverance and discipline. Maintaining a writing pace during the Christmas holidays and New Year’s Eve celebrations required true dedication.
The results exceeded expectations. A total of 17 participants joined the challenge, of whom 16 successfully completed the marathon. By joining forces, they gifted the Czech Wikipedia an impressive 424 new articles.
Who are the winners? The successful completers included both experienced editors and new faces, men and women, and the senior community was also represented. The spectrum of topics was wide – ranging from chemistry to political history.
Honorable mention also goes to those who may have stumbled a second before the finish line but still followed through on their commitment to Wikipedia.
Congratulations to all successful solvers! Those who did not attend the award ceremony on January 16th can pick up their well-deserved prizes at the Wikimedia Czech Republic office. Successful participants also received a medal and a sticker for their user page.
