On Saturday, October 4, 2025, one of the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the founding of Polish Wikipedia took place at the Guido mine in Zabrze, Poland! In the heart of Upper Silesia, 320 meters underground, Wikipedians took on a unique challenge—editing Wikipedia in the premises of a former coal mine. The event, called the Mine of Knowledge (Kopalnia wiedzy), hosted several dozen Wikipedians, mainly from Poland, but also from the Czech Republic and Germany. The Guido Mine is a gem of the region’s industrial heritage – a place that connects history with the future. The edit-a-thon was held in four languages: Polish, Silesian, Czech, and German, thanks to which knowledge about Silesia will gain a new, permanent place in the world’s largest encyclopedia! The event was attended by chief lecturer Pavel Bednařík, board member Tadeáš Bednarz, Jan Beránek, and Miloš Rucki.
