December WikiSchool: Basics of Source Editing

The December WikiSchool will take a closer look at the challenging skill of source editing (in code). This method has been used by Wikipedia contributors since the project’s beginning until the introduction of the Visual Editor in 2010. Although editing is now much easier and more intuitive, certain templates and parts still require source editing. What are the basic principles of the editing syntax one should know? How can using ready-made templates simplify editing? When can you use the visual editor, and when is it better to switch to source mode? We’ll answer all of this in the final pre-holiday WikiSchool session of 2025.

The online WikiSchool takes place on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. You can follow up with questions or continue your work every Monday from 6:00 p.m. as part of the regular Monday WikiCounseling.

You can register here, where you’ll also find all remaining information and details.

What is Online WikiSchool?
It is a series of regular specialized workshops, originally intended mainly for seniors, especially graduates of beginner (and advanced) Seniors Write Wikipedia courses, but today open to all Wikipedia users.

What does Evening WikiSchool offer?
It provides an opportunity to develop specific skills that every good Wikipedian needs. We focus on practical tips and techniques that can be applied directly when editing.

Don’t hesitate to register—this workshop has a limited capacity.

The activities of the Seniors Write Wikipedia program are supported by the grant program for publicly beneficial activities of senior and pro-senior organizations with nationwide reach.
