Women in Czech Cinema, Second Edition

In the fall of 2025, following a two-year hiatus, the second cycle of collaboration between Wikimedia Czech Republic and the Faculty of Arts of Charles University Prague—specifically the Department of Film Studies—took place. The course “Women in Czech Film” (taught by Tereza Czesana Dvořáková) was designed to introduce students to prominent figures and the conditions surrounding women’s participation in the Czech film industry and culture. The practical outcome was two articles that course participants were tasked with writing and publishing on Wikipedia. This resulted in articles on, among others, the Czech-British actress, director, dramaturge, and journalist Susan Kodicek; the prominent script consultant Bohumila Zelenková; the director, sound designer, and actress Johana Ožvold; the producer Monika Kristlová (producer of the film Waves); and the cinematographer Anna Smoroňová. The workshop and follow-up work were loosely linked to the Women’s Month on Wikipedia challenge and concluded in February 2026. This summer, students will also have the opportunity to participate in the next edition of the international Wiki Loves Film challenge.
