If you are a public library librarian, we now have two different training courses for you to attend. However, you can also take part in the courses even if you are not a librarian.
On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, there will be a course in Prague called “Wikipedia Basics (Not Only) for Librarians.”
The course, which will run from 10:00 to 15:00, will be led by Pavel Bednarik. The following topics are on the course agenda:
- Orientation on Wikipedia: The course will guide you through Wikipedia from the perspective of both a reader and a Wikipedian to better understand its structure and functions.
- Practical exercises: you will learn how to use the sandbox, format text, insert links and references.
- How to choose a topic for an article: Find out how to choose an appropriate topic for a Wikipedia article and how to get started writing.
By completing this course, you will have a solid foundation for writing on Wikipedia and be able to contribute to a variety of topics. The course will also give you a deeper insight into how Wikipedia works and various tips to share with library visitors who are interested in Wikipedia.

On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, a course called “Wikipedia Writing Workshop” will take place in Prague.
But what if you already have basic knowledge and want to improve your Wikipedia editing skills? We have another course for you.
The Wikipedia Writing Workshop is for anyone who already has basic Wikipedia editing skills and wants to become a better editor. During this workshop you will focus on improving your editing skills and working on a specific Wikipedia article under the guidance of Wikimedia CR tutors.
The following items will be on the agenda:
- Editing confidence: you will gain confidence in working on Wikipedia and learn how to edit existing articles effectively.
- Skills Upgrade: This course will help you move on and expand your editing skills.
- Individual consultations. We have another course for you.
- The Wikipedia Writing Workshop is for anyone who already has basic Wikipedia editing skills and wants to become a better editor. During this workshop you will focus on improving your editing skills and working on a specific Wikipedia article under the guidance of Wikimedia CR tutors.
The lecturer of this course will again be Pavel Bednařík, the main lecturer of Wikimedia ČR.
