The Jan Amos Comenius Museum in Uherský Brod organizes Comenius Days every year, and in 2025 it decided to enrich the event with a lecture related to Wikipedia. In his original lecture, Pavel Bednařík, chief lecturer and partnership program manager, presented Wikipedia to visitors as a modern theater of the universe, highlighting the connections and intersections between Comenius’ efforts to capture the world in an encyclopedia and the current efforts of the Wikipedia community and movement, as well as the activities of the Wikimedia Foundation (and the Wikimedia Czech Republic association). The lecture took place in the museum’s main hall and pointed out, for example, the similarity between the two endeavors, which consist of a never-ending effort to provide an up-to-date description of the world. Unlike Comenius’s work (only fragments of which have survived), Wikipedia is constantly available to everyone online and anyone can contribute to it.
