Second Round of the “Cite a Source” Campaign Is Here: Add One Reference to Wikipedia and Join the Challenge!

FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS YEAR, THE 1LIB1REF CAMPAIGN IS HERE!

What’s the task? Add at least one reference to Wikipedia!
Any citation from a reliable source helps readers of Wikipedia around the world.

The global Cite a Source campaign (internationally known as #1Lib1Ref) calls on (not only) librarians to use the literature in their collections to enrich Wikipedia by adding at least one citation (reference).

Want to join? Feel free to do so between May 15 and June 5, 2025. Not a librarian? No problem! Anyone can participate.

Edit with us! We’ll show you how.

  • Online workshop: Cite a Source – online, on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.
    • Join us for an online workshop and add citations to Wikipedia together!
    • Suitable for beginners as well.

To be entered into the prize draw for Wikimedia-themed goodies, don’t forget to add the proper hashtag in your edit summary. How? Just write something like “added citation” in the summary and include the hashtag #1Lib1Ref.

You can also compete in the Central and Eastern European regional challenge this year! The winner will receive a voucher for the international Wikistore. Just add a second hashtag: #1Lib1RefCEE. Will you join in?

Why librarians? Who else is better equipped to help ensure the quality of citations on Czech Wikipedia? Librarians are experts in finding and providing information and work with books and journals on a daily basis — invaluable sources for Wikipedia.

The Cite a Source campaign (#1Lib1Ref), held twice a year, is organized by the Wikimedia Foundation and supported by the Wikipedia Library Team and Wikimedia Affiliates around the world. We also work closely with librarian communities at both local and global levels to promote the campaign.
