On Sunday, 9 March 2025, as part of the WikiGap Month, Wikipedian and slammer Anatol Svahilec guided a group of participants on a commemorative walk through Prague’s Olšany Cemeteries. The event highlighted stories of remarkable Czech women – some well-known, others nearly forgotten – whose biographies now have a place on Wikipedia.
Visitors stopped at the graves of renowned fashion designer Hana Podolská, translator and the only female recipient of the Czechoslovak Order of the White Lion Anna Auředníčková, Czech-American journalist and feminist Josefa Humpalová-Zemanová, sociologist Jiřina Šiklová, and cookbook author Marie Janků-Sandtnerová.
Though held a day after International Women’s Day, the event – aptly titled Belated but Not Forgotten – offered a moving tribute to the women who shaped Czech society and whose legacy lives on, also thanks to Wikipedia.
