Learn how to deal with strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPP) in the webinar on November 9th

This webinar for those interested in protecting free access to information offers clear and concise information on the approval of so-called SLAPP lawsuits. Lawsuits or threats of legal action can place a significant burden on independent journalists, organizations, and individuals. Does this risk also apply to Wikipedia contributors? And what legal remedies are available to them? If you’re interested, sign up for our upcoming webinar.

During the webinar, we’ll focus on “bullying” lawsuits that are often abused against creators of inconvenient content (these are known as strategic lawsuits against public participation, or SLAPPs). Their true goal is not to achieve justice or a substantive resolution of the dispute, but to make life miserable for journalists or Wikipedia contributors during the legal process so that they will think twice in the future about publishing information that is inconvenient, for example, to politicians, government agencies, or companies with questionable business practices.

The webinar, led by Ondřej Cakl (WMČR advocacy coordinator) and Jan Rohlena (accace), is ideal for Wikipedians, journalists, and civil society representatives who defend the public interest (the environment, the rule of law, human rights, etc.). Wikimedia Czech Republic has organized this event in collaboration with the consulting firm accace. The webinar will take place on Monday, November 9, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. online via Zoom (you will receive the link after registering here).

The webinar is free of charge.
