November WikiSchool: categories on Wikimedia Commons

What is Evening WikiSchool for seniors?
It is a series of regular, specialised workshops aimed mainly at seniors, especially graduates of the beginner (and advanced) Seniors Writing Wikipedia (SePW) courses.

What does Evening WikiSchool offer?
It offers the opportunity to focus on developing the specific skills that a good Wikipedian needs to do their job. We will focus on techniques and tweaks that can be used in editing practice that are not covered in detail in the Seniors Write Wikipedia courses.

November’s WikiSchool will focus on a seemingly minor but nonetheless crucial area. Categories on Wikimedia Commons. We’ll look at examples of appropriate and inappropriate categorization of images, adding categories in bulk, as well as ways to create or move categories. Wikischool will be part of the Czechoslovakia project, so we will focus mainly on images and photos from history and domestic archives.

The photos uploaded so far from this year’s Czechoslovakia challenge can be found at this link.

We ask all participants to prepare one or more pictures from their own archives that can contribute to a historical topic (e.g. Velvet Revolution, holidays, historical places in the Czech Republic, etc.).
However, this is not a requirement for participation!

The Wikischool will be followed by a photo scanning workshop during the celebrations on 9 December at the Scout Institute.

The online workshop – Evening Wikischool for Seniors: categories on Wikimedia Commons (Czechoslovakia special) – will take place on Tuesday, October 21, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. You can sign up here and find all the rest of the information and details there.

Don’t hesitate to apply, the workshop has limited capacity.
