Women in Czech cinema for the second time. Students at Charles University write Wikipedia entries

February 2026 saw the end of another semester of the course Women in Czech Film, taught by Tereza Czesany Dvořáková at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. The course focuses on various aspects of women’s representation in the Czech film and audiovisual industry and is offered once every two years. Once again, students were tasked with writing entries for the Czech Wikipedia about female creators and other women working in Czech film. Among other things, new entries were created about authors such as Jaroslava Havettová, Johana Ožvold, Marta Nováková, and Maria Procházková. In addition to prominent creative personalities, students also focused on women in less prominent professions, such as producers, sound designers, and casting managers. The new entries include screenwriter Lucie Bokšteflová, casting director and producer Maja Hamplová, costume designers Irena Greifová and Lída Novotná, and editor Janka Vlčková. Articles about Drahomíra Vihanová and documentary filmmaker Erika Hníková have also been expanded. This student article-writing initiative heralds the upcoming Women’s Month on Wikipedia, which begins on March 1, 2026. Will you join in?
