The results of the Describe a Monument competition are out! Wikipedia has grown by 452 new articles

Another edition of the popular editing challenge “Describe a Monument” (Popiš památku) has successfully concluded. This year brought impressive results – thanks to diligent volunteers and Wikipedians, a total of 452 new articles about monuments from Czechia and across Europe have been added to the Czech Wikipedia.

The goal of the traditional Describe a Monument competition is to enrich the largest online encyclopedia with high-quality texts documenting our national and European cultural heritage. From castles and chateaux to historic townhouses and small religious monuments, which often lack comprehensive information online. This year’s edition proved that the interest in history is definitely not fading.

How did it turn out?

Dozens of editors joined the effort of writing and expanding articles, collectively creating hundreds of remarkable texts. It wasn’t just about quantity, but primarily about the quality and depth of the processed information, for which the participants collected points.

This year’s medalists:

  • 1st place: Bazi – Although they “only” wrote 20 articles, their exceptional quality and comprehensiveness brought them a clear victory with a total of 426 points.
  • 2nd place: Petr1888 – An incredibly hardworking editor who processed an amazing 53 articles, earning 295 points.
  • 3rd place: Karelkam – The absolute record holder in the number of newly created entries, adding an incredible 74 articles to the competition and securing 264 points.

Close behind were other experienced and beginning editors, such as Fil.Zaj2002 (42 articles) and Jrnka ka (38 articles).

A huge thank you goes out to all participants. Every written article ensures that another piece of our history and culture will not fade into obscurity and remains easily accessible to anyone looking for information online.
